CAKE is a resource that aims to build a shared knowledge base for maintaining natural and built systems in the face of climate change by providing clear and organized access to the best available information on the subject. Access case studies, a virtual library, articles, reports, data, mapping tools, data, and many other resources. Users can search any of the tools on the website by keyword, taxonomic focus, target impact, sociopolitical setting, scale, or sector.

 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) implements and administers all law related to climate change in the U.S. The EPA’s Climate Change website provides a wealth of content for a variety of purposes and users, organized by three main categories: Laws & Regulations, Learn the Issues, and Science & Technology. Users may calculate their carbon footprint, research regional climate impacts, view recent climate change news within the Executive Branch of government, or search the entire site for specific content. There is also a Glossary, and a Student’s Guide to Climate Change. Most relevant to legal research, the site’s Laws & Regulations page enables users to search content by business sector, topic, compliance, enforcement, laws and executive orders, policy and guidance, or regulations.

 

The IPCC is the leading intergovernmental organization charged with assessing climate change. It is a joint program between the United Nations Environmental Programme and the World Meteorological Organization, and reviews and assesses the most relevant scientific, technical, and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to climate change. The website provides access to the IPCCC’s Working Group’s reports, factsheets, news, and publications. Users may access copies of IPCC reports—including Special Reports, Methodology Reports, Technical Papers, and Supporting Materials—through the site’s “Publications and Data” tab. The site also provides users with access to most IPCC speeches and presentations and links to other international organizations.

UNEP is the environmental voice of the United Nations. Their climate change section features fact sheets, articles, reports, news, videos, and websites. Focus areas include mitigation, adaptation, reducing emissions from deforestation, and finance models for a green economy.

 

The UNFCCC—the precursor to the Kyoto Protocol—is an international treaty to cooperatively consider how to limit global temperature increase and climate change, and to prepare for mitigation and adaptation.
