PolicyMap: Custom Regions

Custom regions gives users the ability to create unique boundaries on the map, and then build reports or download data for those areas. To use these features, click Custom Regions above the map and choose one of the three (3) types of custom regions: Drawn, Assembled, or Radius.

The Draw Custom Regions feature allows you to freely draw a boundary on top of the map. There are two ways to draw a custom region; click to connect points and draw with pencil.

Assembled regions gives you the ability to select and group geographies (e.g. census tracts, or zip codes) to create a new custom region.

Use the Radius region to create a radius boundary around a given address or point on the map.

Users can edit any custom region previously saved. To edit a custom region, open the selected region from the View My Regions menu. Expand the info bubble, select the edit icon, and then Edit Shape. This will open the edit mode for a custom region.

After creating a custom region, select the + icon to open a menu of features you can take action on with a custom region.

When data for a custom region is aggregated in a report, data from smaller geographies within the region is used to calculate the values for the custom region. For drawn and radius custom regions, PolicyMap automatically chooses which type of smaller geographies to use in this calculation based on the geography availability for the data and size of the custom region.
