Biographical note
Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Sister Jeanne joined the Adrian Dominican Sisters at the age of 16. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Siena Heights College in Adrian and a master’s degree in biology and a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Arizona. Following graduation, she served in several administrative positions in higher education and as the Superintendent of the Adrian Dominican Independent School System in Michigan, Illinois and Florida. In November 1981, Barry College officially became Barry University and Sister Jeanne became the school’s fifth President. During her tenure, she oversaw a period of exponential institutional growth. In 2005, she became Chancellor of Barry University with the goal of helping women in developing countries attain advanced degrees from Barry and other U.S. universities. Sister Jeanne continued as an active member of numerous civic and professional associations, and has been honored by numerous organizations including the YWCA, and the Anti-Defamation League.
