OpenAthens Single Sign-On Announcement

Open Athens Logo

OpenAthens Single Sign-On (SSO) has replaced EZProxy authentication for remote access to subscription library electronic resources.

Current Barry University Library users should not see any difference when accessing subscription library resources on or off campus. Continue to use your Barry login credentials to access subscription library resources.

Benefits of OpenAthens Single Sign-On

  • OpenAthens Single Sign-On session remains active for 8 hours, unless you clear browser cache and cookies.
  • OpenAthens uses a more secure method (SAML) to authenticate, so account security is better.

Merging EBSCOhost Personal Accounts

If you currently have an EBSCOhost Personal Account, you will need to merge your account to OpenAthens.  Please access How to Merge Personal User Accounts and follow instructions.  This allows you to merge account information (saved articles, searches, alerts, videos, etc.) from one Personal User Account into another.  Once your accounts are merged, the account that contained the data that was merged into the target account is removed and no longer exists on the service.

What is Single Sign-On?

OpenAthens Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication management system that provides seamless access to the library’s licensed online resources.  This makes access to the library's electronic resources simple from anywhere on and off campus.

Updating EZProxy URLs to OpenAthens URLs in Canvas - Effective March 6, 2023
