Ximena Valdivia received her Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida and studied at the N.A.R.A. Modern Archives Institute, Washington, DC, while pursuing her graduate degree in 2009. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences with concentration in Library Science and Documentation from the Universidad Technologica Metropolitana, Santiago, Chile, in 1995. In 2009, she joined the Barry University professional staff as an Assistant Archivist in the University Archives and Special Collections and in 2012 she became the manager. In her position she is responsible of processing, preserving and managing archival and bibliographical materials. She provides reference services to the University community and visiting scholars researching the collections. Her outreach activities include instruction in the use of Special Collections primary source materials as well as the creation of in house and collaboration in external exhibits.
Ximena is a member of the American Library Association (ALA), the Association of Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS), the Society of American Archivists (SAA), and the Society of Florida Archivists (SFA). Ms. Valdivia is recipient of the 2009 SLA Affirmative Action Scholarship and the 1991-1994 Beca Presidente de la Republica (President of the Republic Award, Chile)
